When it rains, you may think it’s nature’s way of cleaning, but actually the opposite could be taking place. Stormwater can roll over dirt and pollutants, carrying it from rooftops, streets and parking lots into storm drains and finally into streams, ponds and other water bodies affecting water quality. In order to meet Federal and State water quality rules and to protect property from downstream flooding, stormwater control regulations are put in place. Effective November 13, 2017, the City of Lexington implemented stormwater control regulations for all new development and redevelopment of one or more acres within the City’s limits. The regulations will insure stormwater runoff control devices are put in place to lessen the impact of water pollution and sediment runoff into local streams and lakes.
