Finch Park Mountain Bike (MTB) TrailMountain Bike Trail at Finch Park

In the 90s, a handful of dedicated mountain bikers began to build trails at Finch Park in Lexington in order to enjoy their favorite past time. Eventually, for various reasons these trails became neglected.  With renewed interest in mountain biking in the area, trail advocates saw the potential to recover and modernize these trails. Along with Parks and Recreation, the Roadies and Dirties developed a strategy to update the trails into a system that would be accessible to multiple riding levels. High priority was placed on a beginner loop where new and less skilled riders can enjoy learning to mountain bike.  After a lot of hard work, and countless hours spent on the trail, we are excited to open the first phase of the MTB Trail!

Ribbon Cutting - October 20th, 9:00am
Join us for the Ribbon Cutting at the MTB Trail at Finch Park. After the Trail Dedication and Ribbon Cutting, we will have a Bike Rodeo, MTB Classes, and more.  Check out more details on our registration site, or on Facebook.

Bike Rodeo - 9:30am
The Lexington Police Department and Roadies and Dirties of Davidson County will be hosting a Bike Rodeo to help kids learn about bike safety and proper riding techniques. We will also be giving away a limited number of FREE helmets! Bike rodeos are a fun and effective way to teach bicycle safety and to encourage physical activity. At the bike rodeo, we will offer bicycle safety inspections, introduce state bike laws, policies and efforts, and give students a chance to practice their skills via activity stations in a safe and controlled environment. This event is for children who already know how to ride a bicycle without assistance or bike with training wheels.

About the Trail
The Finch Park MTB trail is a winding trail that follows a section of Abbott's Creek. The trail includes a .5 mile beginner loop that can be ridden independently, or as a part of a larger 1.5 mile intermediate loop. The beginner loop is designed for bikers who are looking for an introduction to unpaved trails, and is made up of two distinct sections. The creek side section is a beautiful winding trail with few obstacles that follows a section of Abbott's Creek, while the second half of the loop consists of a series of gentle hills, rollers, and berms that ebb and flow through the woodland forest. Phase 2 of trail improvements is expected to start in the fall and increase the trail to nearly 4 miles.
