The Information Technologies Department is responsible for the optimal performance, connectivity, reliability and security of complex enterprise wide technology and information systems infrastructure across multiple physical locations and city facilities. Rapidly changing technologies is a constant and requires continual adaptation by this department, with over 330 city employees relying upon technology daily to perform their responsibilities. Public safety, public health, customer 'online' expectations, 'real time' information demands, and business continuity for a multimillion government operation results in 24/7 reliance on technology infrastructure.

The IT team supports approximately 30 servers, a minimum of 22 mission critical software applications, and over 80 employees using wireless connections in the field. The department is responsible to maintain the inventory and connectivity of over 450 citywide technology devices. IT staff also holds the responsibility of enhancing access for citizens and utility customers through electronic and business commerce; primarily through the city website which averages 35,000 visits and over 1,900 customers conducting online services related to their utility account each month.

The core mission of the IT team is to research, introduce and integrate innovative technology solutions; identify funding restraints versus the gains in employee productivity; and work under the leadership of the City Administration to fulfill City Council's goals and strategize future technology enhancements with the ultimate goal of maximizing city workforce productivity.
