The Lexington Fire Department is a professional career department providing staffed fire and life safety protection to the community twenty-four hours a day.  In an effort to add value and continuity of service, the department has evolved the traditional mission of fire suppression to include: rescue services, hazardous material abatement and medical response.  Additionally, the department provides decentralized, comprehensive education and fire code compliance programs.

The department protects a diverse population of approximately 19,000 located in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. The city is a mixture of urban, suburban and rural landscapes. Within that mixture is a myriad of agricultural, residential, business, transportation, manufacturing and industrial protection concerns.

To protect these interests, the Lexington Fire Department currently deploys four companies out of three strategically located fire stations within the city. Staffing is comprised of firefighting professionals in command and operations divisions, spread among three platoons and daytime administration. Additionally, the department maintains mutual aid relationships with nearby organizations to augment the city force. The Fire department enjoys a North Carolina Department of Insurance Fire Protection class 2 rating.
