About Lexington Skate Park

The Lexington Skate Park was designed and built by one of the premier skate park companies in the world, Team Pain.  After hearing from citizens about the need for a skate park, it was incorporated into the Re-Creation of Recreation Master plan in 2013. Public meetings were held to gain community input on the design and layout, and construction began in late 2018. 

The park is primarily a street course full of transitions and street textures. There are 6 different types of handrails and flat rails throughout the park, and a variety of hips and ledges. The park also boasts a 10 foot deep pro bowl. One unique feature is the brick quarterpipe, which is made entirely of bricks from the Lexington Home Brands factory fire.

History of Lexington Skate Park

Former City Manager Alan Carson introduced a conceptual master plan for the Lexington Skate Park at the 2014 City Council retreat titled,  "The Re-Creation of Recreation."  The vision followed a Parks and Recreation Facility Development Master Plan Study in 2013 by Site Solutions. Citizens have reiterated the need for recreational opportunities in the community for over four decades. Most recently the need was mentioned as part of the Economic Development Strategic Plan. It was also recommended in the 2020 Renaissance Plan.

CLH Design and Team Pain worked with citizens for input on the initial design of the “re-creation” into Lexington’s first skate/bmx park. Public meetings were held in 2016 for community input. This project will be approached just like other park renovations, with the end result to create significant appeal for current residents as well as prospective residents and businesses.
