In 2014, City Council began working on a plan for the “Re-creation of Recreation”. Three of the four projects outlined in the original plan have been completed, including the Lexington Aquatic Park (completed 2015), Washington Park renovation and Splashpad (completed 2016), and a Lexington Skatepark (completed 2019). Planning is now underway for the fourth project, a Community Recreation Center!
The City of Lexington has hired a consulting firm, to explore options of what the community wants in a Community Recreation Center and present a plan for City Council’s consideration. This process was kicked off on February 23, 2022 when the Lexington City Council met with the consulting firm to participate in a visioning workshop.
A public participation meeting was held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. Attendees at this meeting heard a presentation of ideas and possibilities for a Community Recreation Center, and participated by placing votes on various idea boards and completing a written survey.
The online survey to gather the wants and ideas from the community is open from April 11, 2022 - May 13, 2022, for all to complete at https://bit.ly/lexingtonneedssurvey. The survey is available in both English and Spanish by selecting the language at the top of the survey.
There will be a second public input meeting held on Tuesday, May 3 at 6pm Smith Civic Center, 217 S. Main Street, Lexington for the consulting firm to present a preliminary proposal and receive community feedback. A final proposal is expected to be presented to City Council in late summer 2022.
