Operations

Fire Truck

Responsible for:

  • fire suppression
  • first responder medical services
  • rescue activities
  • mitigation of disasters and hazardous materials. 

In addition to emergency work, firefighters in the Operations Division inspect industrial, commercial and multi-residential occupancies on a regular basis. Division members provide a wide range of services to the community including blood-pressure screening, tours of fire stations and apparatus and fire and life safety presentations within the community.

Responsible for:

  • coordination of field inspections
  • conducting certificate of occupancy inspections
  • change of occupancy inspections
  • compliance inspections
  • performing blueprint plan review for new construction and significant structural renovations within the city
  • coordinates numerous community events and projects to heighten awareness of life safety and promote the department

Training Division

Responsible for:

  • providing firefighters with continuous operational training on a regular basis

Firefighters receive a variety of general training courses throughout the year including fire ground operations, apparatus driver training, hazardous materials, rescue and collapse and operational readiness to name a few. 

The Lexington Fire Department offers extensive opportunities to enhance careers through advanced coursework, certifications and degrees. Many of the courses offered are available on site at the fire station or online via the internet. Additionally, the City offers a tuition reimbursement program to help staff defray costs associated with professional development.

Logistics Division

Responsible for:

  • facilities upkeep coordination
  • fleet upkeep coordination
  • equipment and supply allocation

Human Services Division

Responsible for:

  • recruitment and assessment of prospective employees
  • coordinating initial orientation for new employees
  • career ladder assessments for staff seeking promotion
  • coordinates annual performance evaluations, medical monitoring and physical fitness evaluations of firefighters
