Mission Statement

The mission of the Lexington Police Department is to serve the community by preventing crime, protecting life, property and resolving community problems. We will hold ourselves to the highest standards of integrity, service, honesty and professionalism to provide the quality of life the citizens of Lexington deserve.

Leadership

Chief of Police, Robby Rummage

Chief Rummage has been with the Lexington Police Department since 1999 and has worked in the Uniformed Division and Criminal Investigations.

He graduated from Davidson County Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Chief Rummage received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Western Carolina University, and his Master's in Criminal Justice degree from Fayetteville State University. He also completed  the  FBI-LEEDA Trilogy  program.

Chief Rummage has received his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate and is a graduate of the North Carolina Justice Academy Management Development Program. Chief Rummage is a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. 


Deputy Chief of Police, Michael Hunt

Deputy Chief Michael Hunt  has been with LPD since 1997 and has worked in the Uniformed Division, Criminal Investigations and Vice/Narcotics Division. Prior to becoming Deputy Chief he was in command of the Investigations Division. He graduated from Davidson County Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Captain Hunt has received his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate and is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Leadership and Management Program at Rowan Cabarrus Community College.


Uniformed Division 

Captain Kirkwood commands the Patrol Division, which is responsible for providing 24 hour protection to the City of Lexington, its citizens, visitors, and businesses. The Patrol Division responds to an average of over 50,000 emergency and non-emergency calls for service annually. This division also proactively investigates and addresses community problems, enforces traffic laws, and investigates traffic crashes. The Uniformed Patrol Division is made up of four teams. Each team consists of a lieutenant, sergeant and six officers.  These officers are trained, equipped and well prepared to regularly address unknown situations with the focus on preserving human life, protecting property, and solving and preventing crime.  


Investigations Division 

 

Captain Davis commands the Investigation Division that is responsible for investigating major crimes and drug investigations. The division is made of two teams, detectives and vice. Each team has a lieutenant, a sergeant and seasoned officers with experience in their field. Detectives handle serious crime including murder, rape, robbery, burglary, larceny, aggravated assault, auto theft and fraud. Vice is responsible for drug, alcohol and prostitution violations. 

Captain Davis began his career as a sworn patrol officer with Lexington Police in 2004. He has since worked in the Vice/Narcotics, Criminal Investigations, Special Operations and Patrol Divisions. In 2011 he was promoted to Sergeant, where he served multiple divisions within the department. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2015 and led the Patrol, Special Operations, Vice/Narcotics, and Criminal Investigations Divisions. Captain Davis received a bachelor’s degree in sociology and criminology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. During his career he has received his advanced law enforcement certificate. In addition he graduated from the NC Justice Academy Management Development program and the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy progra


Professional Standards & Community Engagement 

Captain Ronnie Best commands Lexington's efforts for Professional Standards and Community Engagement. Lexington Police Department added this dedicated position to continue and strengthen efforts to be a professional 21st Century Police Force.
