Mission: The City of Lexington Human Relations Commission promotes an environment of acceptance, encouraging respect and mutual understanding through programs.

Established in June 1993, the Lexington Human Relations Commission “promotes equality of opportunity in the economic, educational and cultural life of the community for all citizens without regard to race, national origin, sex, age, disability, genetic information, pregnancy or religion and works to eliminate discrimination in any of these areas.”

The Human Relations Commission meets the first Monday of the month at 6pm at City Hall – 28 W. Center St. – in the Council Chambers. The public is invited to attend their meetings as they work to address human relations issues in the city.

Commission members are appointed by the Mayor and City Council for three-year terms. Members can serve two consecutive three-year terms.

If you have a human relations concern, please email the commission at HumanRelationsCommission@LexingtonNC.gov. Response time will be between 1-3 business days.
