What is Lexington Academy?

Lexington Academy is an educational program where participants will enjoy a hands-on, inside view of City operations and gain a better understanding of how and why the City provides its services. Each week, academy participants will meet with different departments where they will get to experience engaging demonstrations, ask questions, and address concerns.

Class Details

Applications for the 2024 class are due by August 21st.

The 2024 Academy will be on Thursday, 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. September 5th through November 14th. Dinner is provided. Classes are free and open to anyone who is at least 16 years old, with priority will be given to city residents.

Lexington Academy participants are expected to attend all sessions. However, we understand that life happens. Participants must attend 7 out of the 9 sessions to qualify for graduation.

What departments/divisions will participants visit?

Participants will meet the Mayor and City Council, as well as all of the City's departments which include:

City Administration
Parks and Recreation, Public Buildings, and Public Grounds
Golf
Police
Fire
Public Services - Recycling & Waste, Stormwater, Street, and Fleet Maintenance
Information Technology
Finance
Human Resources
Business & Community Development
Engineering
Lexington Utilities - Electric, Natural Gas, Water Resources, and Customer Service
